NAIDOC week

NAIDOC Week 2015 runs from Sunday 5 July to Sunday 12 July. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee and celebrates the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The national theme for 2015 is:

We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate

NAIDOC7

The origins of the week can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. It is now celebrated in the first full week of July.

Quiz from Blackfulla Revolution

The following quiz was put together by Blackfulla Revolution for NAIDOC Week this year. They describe it as “a citizenship test to see if people have knowledge and respect in order to have a true connection to our land.”

The full quiz, complete with images and multiple-choice answers, as published by Blackfulla Revolution and posted on the 2020socialjustice Facebook page, is embedded below, and you can also link to it here if you would like to test yourself before continuing to the condensed format provided in this post.

The quiz as presented here includes the questions in full, but only the correct answers rather than all the multiple-choice options (in most cases). I have slightly modified some questions to make them self-contained for current purposes (that is, independent of the full set of answers). Correct answers are shown following each question.
