Can invite others to do so too

With open arms and open hearts

Open minds and open policies

We can restore our communal spirit

Although the prospects are dismal

We must never give up

It could feel so good

Arms in the air and hearts full of joy

It doesn’t right now

Because of…fear?

Time to let go

To live and let live

In refugee week

Time to lift our sights

And liberate empathy

It could be me – or you – on Nauru or Manus Island

We are called naïve us who support asylum seekers

But naivety and hope are close companions

And hope is essential to change
